Police initially did not know if Iman was alone in the apartment and established a perimeter. Nearby schools were placed on secure lockdown, with classes proceeding as usual but access to the buildings restricted.

The victim, who had gone to the residence to pick up their significant other’s dog, told authorities that Iman had forced them into a vehicle while threatening them with a knife, demanding to be taken to the victim’s significant other.

Officers negotiated with Iman for over two hours before he surrendered. Another individual exited the apartment and was taken into custody but later released.
