Watch for ice this morning – fog, rain, and snowmelt into end the year

The latest northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5…

Icy conditions in many communities this morning on roads, sidewalks, and parking lots as freezing drizzle developed last night, and could redevelop at times today. As drizzle falls into below freezing temperatures, it freezes on the ground and creates black ice. Please take it slow on the morning drive!

Southern counties will warm above freezing after 9am, taking away the ice problem. Northern communities will stay below freezing until noon, so the ice concern remains there a little longer. All communities will have above freezing temperatures this afternoon as our late December thaw begins – and that rush of warm air will create fog and snowmelt – eventually some occasional rain showers starting tonight.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY has been issued for ice accumulation on surfaces, instead of snow accumulation. This will expire at either 9am or noon, depending on where you live and when temperatures rise above 32 degrees.

Icy from freezing drizzle and fog early on Thursday, then areas of non-freezing drizzle and fog into the afternoon. The high is 39 degrees.

Tonight, areas of fog with scattered light rain showers. The low is 37 degrees as temperatures stay steady from the afternoon.

43 degrees on Friday with more fog and snowmelt. Occasional rain showers are possible during the day. Steady rain will move in Friday evening into early Saturday.

Morning rain on Saturday, then cloudy and foggy. The high is 44 degrees.

Mostly cloudy on Sunday with a high of 41 degrees. As snow continues to melt, fog is possible.
