Illinois man arrested after shooting gun during argument

JANESVILLE, Wis. (WFRV) – An Illinois man was taken into custody on Sunday morning after a report of shots fired after an argument.

According to a release, officers with the Janesville Police Department responded to the 1300 block of Hamilton Ave. for a disturbance where shots were allegedly fired.

Several witnesses reported two men had been arguing, and one of them had discharged a firearm.

The armed man, later identified as 27-year-old Nicholas Russell of Illinois, ran into the woods before officers’ arrival. Law enforcement searched the wooded area and located Russell.

He was reportedly cooperative with officers and taken into custody without incident.

Evidence was collected at the scene, and the firearm used was recovered. Russell was arrested and held at the Rock County Jail for first-degree recklessly endangering safety and intoxicated use of a gun.
