RACINE, Wis. (WFRV) – Two people were left injured after a home exploded in southern Wisconsin on Tuesday evening as crews battled flames for nearly five hours.
According to the Racine Fire Department, crews responded to a house explosion report around 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Crews arrived to find a side-by-side duplex destroyed with one home next door damaged.

Despite the heavy damage, both residents, one from each home survived the blast. One of the residents escaped on their own, with the other rescued by a neighbor who came running after the blast sounded.
Both were taken to local hospitals and treated for injuries. Crews on the scene battled the flames for nearly five hours in near-zero temperatures, fully extinguishing the fire.
Multiple crews came in for backup, as other local departments covered for Racine crews during the suppression efforts. The Racine Fire Department added thanks to J3 Remodeling and La Tapatia Restaurant for providing food and drink to those on the scene.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation. No additional details were provided.
