Door County Sheriff’s Office urges safety in wake of scam calls seeking financial donations

DOOR COUNTY, Wis. (WFRV) – In yet another bout of scam calls that have popped up throughout Wisconsin, the Door County Sheriff’s Office is urging people to be careful.

According to a release, the scam is targeting residents with a phone call from somebody posing as a “Sergeant Johnson” from the Door County Sheriff’s Office.

A similar scam under the same name was reported in mid-September by the Fond du Lac Police Department.

The calls consist of the scammer asking for financial donations. The Door County Sheriff’s Office said they will never solicit monetary donations over the phone.

Anybody who receives a call like this is urged to not provide any personal information nor a donation. Those who feel they’ve been a victim of the scam are asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office immediately.
