Door County residents speak out about proposed development for iconic golf course

EGG HARBOR, Wis. (WFRV) – Residents in Door County are speaking out on a proposed development that would change the layout of an iconic golf course.

The owner of the Alpine Golf Course in Egg Harbor says they are looking to develop a portion of the course to build residential housing.

They told the Egg Harbor Planning Commission why the proposed development would be helpful for the community. The course is pushing for a decision by the planning commission immediately.

“Bringing in the residential component is something our golf course manager has wanted before,” began Chad Fradette, Project Manager. “He’s really excited about people living on the golf course.”

However, some residents who live near the golf course are speaking out against the proposal, saying they think the area could be used for something different other than housing development.

“Does this area want to have a nice natural resource [area] for biking, walking, picnicking, use your imagination but not development,” said resident Rob Cowles. “The county’s been pretty much developed, so there’s not a lot left.”

In the end, the planning commission did vote to conditionally approve the development and are working with the Alpine Golf Course on the next steps.
