APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – The Appleton American Legion Post 38 has been hosting Brat Frys every Wednesday with proceeds going to various programs in the community that support local Veterans and their families, and August 21’s event will benefit the Old Glory Honor Flight.
The Brat Frys have drawn hundreds of people each Wednesday, and on August 21, its hours have been extended to 7 p.m. “It will be a Brat Fry Extravaganza,” said Appleton American Legion Post 38 Commander, Mr. Jan Hoffman.
Local Wisconsin gardens provide fresh produce to those in need
“Our goal is to exceed the amount that was raised at our 2023 event, which was $6,500,” continued Hoffman. All proceeds from the ‘extravaganza’ are going to the Old Glory Honor Flight.
The menu will include brats, hamburgers, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, chips, and various drinks.
Other special features at August 21’s event include(d):
- Sweet treats available from the Appleton American Legion Auxiliary Unit 38 members
- Fox Valley Humane Association shared information on the positive animal interaction for Veterans, as well as their various adoption opportunities
- Club 38 Bar & Grill will be open at 11:00 a.m. for other cold beverages
- The Community Blood Center collected blood donations for their Every Drop Counts – Donate Blood Campaign

Old Glory Honor Flight missions take Veterans on free trips to Washington, D.C. It was founded in 2009 by a group of volunteers based in Appleton. Other missions have been organized beyond Washington, D.C., to include a “Return to Pearl,” “Return to Nam,” and others.
The Brat Fry Extravaganza will be going on until 7 p.m. on August 21 at 3220 West College Avenue.
