FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – The Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation provided an update on the officer-involved death in Fond du Lac in the evening of February 24.
According to the update, the subject who was killed in the incident was identified as 26-year-old Jesus Armando Mendez Berry, who contacted the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office that night wishing to turn himself in on a felony arrest warrant.
Authorities also got a citizen report who said that a subject matching Mendez Berry’s description had what looked like a handgun on his person.
Deputies reportedly located Mendez Berry in the 6300 block of Cherrywood Drive shortly after the call, and he refused to follow orders to show both of his hands, and a deputy used a non-lethal weapon.
