Teenage driver in northern Wisconsin dies after crashing into highway department truck

STANLEY, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in northern Wisconsin say a teenage driver is dead after a crash with a highway department truck that was performing winter maintenance.

According to a release from the Wisconsin State Patrol, on February 2, around 4 a.m., a crash happened on WIS 29 at County Road H in Chippewa County near Stanley. Multiple agencies reportedly responded to the scene of the crash.

Officials say that a Chippewa County Highway Department truck was doing winter maintenance on WIS 29 when it was hit from behind. The driver of the vehicle reportedly died due to the injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the highway department truck was not injured.

The Wisconsin State Patrol’s release provided the driver’s name of the other vehicle who was 19 years old and alcohol is believed to have been used.

The crash is still under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
