24-year-old missing after being swept away by current on Wisconsin River

SPRING GREEN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in south-central Wisconsin are searching for a missing swimmer in the Wisconsin River who got swept away by a current on Sunday.

According to a release, deputies with the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing swimmer in the Wisconsin River near Peck’s Landing in Spring Green, about an hour west of Madison.

Several first responders arrived on the scene and learned that three men had entered the water from a sandbar and were swept away by the current. One man was able to swim back to the sandbar, while another was rescued by a passing boat.

The third man, a 24-year-old from Richland Center, was unaccounted for. The Sauk County Dive Team members searched the river on Sunday until darkness set in. He was not found.
